Irène Bellier

Irène BELLIER is a political anthropologist affiliated to LAIOS, at the National Center for Scientific research in France (CNRS, Paris). Trained at the French Institut d'Etudes Politiques and the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, she did her Ph.D. on a small-scale society in the Amazon Peruvian Forest. She published several papers in ethno-linguistics and two contributions on the Mai huna: El Temblor y la Luna (1991), and a detailed monograph (1994). Before conducting research in the European Commission, she studied French corporate identities and state power-training (L'ENA comme si vous y étiez, 1993). She published on bureaucratic, multicultural and multilingual institutions in the European Union, co-authored, with T.M. Wilson, An anthropology of the European Union: building, imagining, experiencing Europe (2000), and recently issued several papers on the Europeanization of elites, globalization and Europe, and the language issue in the European Union. Currently, she focuses on research on transnational organizations and establishes an international working group on development policies.
