"SCHINDLER'S LIST". USING FEATURES FOR POLITICAL EDUCATION IN AUSTRIAN SCHOOLS - A CASE STUDY
Austrian pupils got the chance to watch the movie "Schindler's List" by Stephen Spielberg. The afterwards conducted evaluation of this "film project" asked mainly for the role of such a project within political education and the imparting of knowledge about recent history. The juveniles were really affected by the movie - an important aim of the project, namely to go beyond the cognitive level of knowledge transfer, was achieved. This also indicates the importance of visualization of history for young people. But: The imbedding of the film in classes is necessary in order to give detailed information about National Socialism and the historical context as well as to cope with consternation.
